FUSE MMA IS SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN'S PREMIER MMA TRAINING FACILITY.
At Fuse MMA we promise to have respect and care for each and every person that comes in our door.
We believe that it is important to be a positive force in our community through the ways we treat
people and in turn the ways that our members treat their community inside of and out of the gym.
The egos will be “checked” at the door and we will treat each other as equals.
Fighting isn’t for everybody! Although Fuse MMA has a great stable of Mixed Martial Arts
competitors, both amateur and professional, we encourage a family atmosphere where it is our
belief that every person can benefit from the mental and physical benefits that this gym can
produce. All training is modified to benefit each individual’s skill level and needs.
The safety of our members is our number one concern.
Shaun Mirjavadi is a long-time martial arts and fitness enthusiast. His martial arts interest
began at a young age with some traditional martial arts. A short time later, Shaun became interested
in Fitness and Bodybuilding as a young adult. He became a Certified Personal Trainer, as well as a
successful competitive Bodybuilder and nutritionist. He worked as a professional Personal Trainer,
educating and instructing a diverse clientele. Shaun then began training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu,
Boxing, Muay Thai, and other various forms of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). With MMA being his personal
focus area, Shaun began competing in the amateur circuit with great success.
Soon after Shaun began training and competing in MMA, he relocated to Portland, Oregon where he
was able to train and compete with some of the most talented teachers and fighters in the business.
He found a home for his training at the well known Impact Jiu Jitsu, one of the best Jiu Jitsu and
mixed martial arts schools in Oregon, under Coach Michael Chapman. This was his awakening to what
it meant to train and live as a true mixed martial artist. While in Portland, Shaun fought in
various events, including the nationally renowned Full Contact Fighting Federation, respectfully
known as the “golden gloves” of amateur mixed martial arts. He won the heavyweight title in the
FCFF twice and has since made the decision to become a professional fighter.
Since making the move with his family back to Michigan, Shaun has continued with great success,
fighting and winning in venues such as the Palace at Auburn Hills. Shaun has been training with
Bill Bustance of Trigger Boxing, one of the greatest boxing coaches this planet has to offer.
This has helped his MMA game exponentially, but finding home recently in the Detroit area, training
has not been easy. Now Living in Clinton Twp, it has been difficult to find proper training, or a
place that has it all to call home. It has been an honor to train with “Big” Don, but with the one
hour drive each way, and 2 kids at home, it’s not always convenient to say the least. In an effort
to bring a full, legitimate program for Mixed Martial Arts to the east side, Shaun and Don have decided
to build this new school, Fuse MMA. Now, anybody interested in learning these disciplines, getting
in shape, or competing in this area can actually do so.
Shaun has found his passion for not only competing and training, but also teaching others in the
disciplines that he loves. For Shaun, the feeling of positively impacting somebody else's life and
leaving them with a feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment is more gratifying than winning his
own contests. He is an active nutritionist, helping people from around the globe with their nutritional
needs through troponinnutrition.com. Here, he works with athletes of all types, men, women and the
“average Joe”. He is also a writer for EliteFTS.com, covering all types of topics that range from
nutrition to training and of course, the wonderful sport of Mixed Martial Arts. Shaun says, “Anywhere
in life that I can help or motivate people to make their life better or find their passion, I’m more
than happy to lend a hand if it is in my power to do so. When we can take our knack or our passion
in life, and turn it into something that empowers others, I think that everybody gets the ultimate
satisfaction. We should all be here to help one another and I think we can all have this ability if
we are open to it. Thats the kind of place that Fuse MMA will surely be.”

Don Richard is co-founder of FUSE MMA as well as our head instructor. He is a pro fighter with over
20 professional fights. With a wealth of experience, Don has fought around the world including
Canada, Russia, Australia and of course America. He has fought and competed at the highest level,
including fights against many well known UFC names. He is one of Michigan's very first and most
legit Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belts, and currently the only person in the state to hold black
belts in both BJJ and Judo. Starting his combat training long ago as a very successful wrestler
makes Don Richard about as well rounded a grappler as one could hope to be in a lifetime.
One who thrives on competition, Don has held numerous titles in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. With
more titles to come, here is his current record in grappling alone:
- Submission Fighting Black Belt (Metro Fight Club)
- 4x Gracie Nationals Champion
- 2x Gracie World Champion NAGA World Champion
- Can American Champion, Great Lakes Grappling Classic Champion
- C3 Champion, Michigan Open Champion
- Over 150 wins in Submission Grappling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
- Grappler's Quest Champion
- Multiple Black Belt Super Fight Champion titles
“Big” Don also has almost 10 years of training in Muay Thai under World Champion Muay Thai Fighter
Matee Jedeepitak. He has tested those skills in the brutal arena of Muay Thai successfully with an
undefeated record or 4-0. These are just some of the highlights that have made Don such a well rounded
fighter and coach. At 6’ tall weighing in around 250 lbs., with more Mixed Martial Arts experience
than most can dream of, “Big” Don’s current professional MMA record stands at 11-9-1.
I told Don that I wanted to write his bio because he is too humble to express his true credentials
as a coach, and jotting his stats alone just doesn’t tell people the coach and man that he is.
Fuse MMA would not be what it is without Don Richard. Not only his competitive success, but his
experience and success as a coach make him what he is. He has coached and taught at some of the
best schools in the state. He has an excellent ability to captivate his students and drive them
to succeed. Don was one of my first instructors, one who motivated me to give my all. Even after
I moved, Don and I remained friends and as with all of his students, he always had an interest in
how I was doing. As soon as I moved back to MI, I sought out Don as my own personal coach. He is
truly the best around, and one of the only people that I would trust to take me into competition.
I am not alone in this feeling, any of Don’s students past and present would say the same. He
motivates people not only in competition, but in life. Don’t let the nickname fool ya, “Big”
Don Richard is a gentle giant with true passion for this sport and the people he teaches. His
students are his first priority, which he has demonstrated after years of coaching. Don even
leads an organization which he founded to bring Martial Arts and all of its benefits to under
privileged youth in our community. This is also exciting for Fuse MMA as we hope to have the best possible
impact on those around us. I can go on and on about Don. I will say that I would not have had nearly as
much interest in being a part of a new gym without the big man, but on the other hand, having Don driving
this mission is a dream come true. With “Big” Don leading the charge, I have full confidence in Fuse MMA
and know that our students will always walk into the doors excited to learn, and walk out the doors better
combatants as well as better people.
With Don as our head instructor at Fuse MMA, I am thrilled to share my coach with everybody in our
area interested in Martial Arts. Our community is lucky to have him, I am not exaggerating to call
him the best and most rounded coach and instructor that Michigan has to offer. We share the same
drive to make Fuse MMA the best school in the state of Michigan. Come on in and see for yourself,
you won’t be sorry. We welcome all to come be a part of the Fuse MMA community!
